Series 2 windscreen motor suddenly stopped
This afternoon I was driving in the heavy rain when the windscreen motor stopped dead at the end of the outward stroke. It had been running fine for about half an hour and the rain was heavy so there was little resistance on the blades. I checked the fuses which were both ok and tried gently wiggling the arms to see if they were stuck. No joy and feeling under the dash the motor appeared to be getting hotter so I switched it off. I don't know what to do now.

Remove the wiper arms and try again. If no success check wiring from motor. To gain access to motor remove steering wheel, makes access easier, and instrument panel - early Series 2 or driver's glove box - late Series 2. Follow detailed instructions in previous posts.

Were the arms moving at normal speed - or only slowly before they stopped? Fact motor is hot suggests it's ok - and the problem lies with the mechanical rack/pinion/wheelbox assemblies.......... Dribble some oil down the spindles as a first attempt to get them moving.

It is possible that the wiper motor has burned out - well, that's what happened to me, but that was because the park mechanism was incorrectly set

Re: Series 2 windscreen motor suddenly stopped
One of the wheel boxes has most likely seized! The wiper motors seem to last decades.
These should be removed and lubricated every now and again to avoid seizure.
If you can get a working second hand wheel box or NOS item then do so rather than buy new as the last two I bought new do not sweep the full arc of the screen. Possibly, we are being sold Mini wheel boxes....
At least the cars passed the MOT, but less screen arc being swept is an annoyance...
