well the Pickup has been gaining miles on the speedo, I've a had a great summer despite the weather, she has performed her duty really well, have to say, she has made herself indispensable. As a second family car a small pickup is ideal. All those little garden jobs, trips to the recycling centre, and her rear cargo floor is easy to sweep clean. the family saloon is kept nice and clean, not a leaf or twig in sight, or out of sight for that matter, no foliage stuffed down between the seats...[frame]Image[/frame]

but the rain is getting heavy and more frequent, and every time I go out I find myself swabbing out the back, I don't want to tempt rust, so far I've managed to hold it off, but the cargo bay is a natural holder of moisture. So the next item on the list is a Tonneau cover for the back.[frame]Image[/frame]

I called ESM they don't do them, Bull Motif don't list them either, a guy up in Manchester called Tony makes them up in good quality with the bit that fits around the spare tyre and taylored around the corners, sounds great, gave him a call and he sounds like a nice chap. His mate advertises them for him on ebay and this was the shot, you may have already seen it.[frame]Image[/frame]

those buckles at the bottom of the picture puzzled me at first, Ive nowhere for them to go, Tony is sending me the buckle fixings that screw onto the tailgate, and some canvas chain covers. I'll let you all know how it goes, I'll post some pictures of the cover on here when it arrives.[frame]Image[/frame]

Fitting the gasket under the bottom of the cab back would stop water being trapped there!

Ive seen that tonneau on ebay loads of times. Id be interested to see some pictures of how it fits to your pickup. Id be particulary interested in seeing some photos of how it meets the cab back and how it meets the B posts by the Cab/side triangular bracket. Ive actually got the tilt hoop carrying storage cradles on mine, that screw to those triangular brackets.

Ive got an original BL tilt on mine and I have no intention of removing it permanently, but I'd like the option of having a tonneau as well. The tilt is really restrictive on rear visability, looks good though, and thats why I like it. I just dont try driving her in reverse when it on thats all. :D

Cheers

With a tonneau (is that right?) fitted the tendency is for the water to settle on it in the form of a puddle. Then if you apply the brakes the water shoots forward and straight down into the cargo area! I presume this is why you are making your enquiry? If so you may be interested in my solution. I have overcome this problem by clamping the front between two pieces of timber, shaped to fit the back curve of the cab, with a rubber gasket separating the metal back from the timber. The top piece is fixed to the back permanently and the bottom piece is clamped to the top with the material in between. I screwed from underneath. Where the screws passed through the material I put small eyelets in, countersinking the timber to allow for the slight bulge they make.

I'm not sure, and I won't be until it arrives and I fit the cover, but the part that is fitted to go around the top of the tyre may mean that corner is raised slightly to allow water to run off, rain water should only build up on a flat or slightly concaved surface. Thats the theory, I might be proved wrong if the tyre part fits so well the canvas is flattened out across the back. As for water washing down the back of the cab, there is a cord that can be tightened using the hooks and cleats to provide a waterproof seal. What product do you guys recomend to preserve the watertight integrity of the canvas?

You can get a waterproofing liquid from a tent supplier such as Milletts. My cover has seen better days and I 've been quoted £400 from a car upholstery shop, they take the car for a day, measure and fit.

It arrived this morning, and I'm very pleased with it, it took a week as the cheque I'd sent Tony for £240 had to clear before he sent it along. I've only just unpacked it and layed it loosly on the back of the Pickup to show you how it all fits together.[frame]Image[/frame]

as you come around the tail the cover fits over the side and tailgate to direct water downward & away from the side.[frame]Image[/frame]

Tony suggested drilling through the tailgate to attach these buckles, that would secure the Tonneau really well, but in the dry months (if we ever see any!) or when the cargo back is in use, the buckles will be left attached, I'm thinking of welding buckle loops onto the tailgate instead, and sewing the buckles to the canvas so you loop it in on itself.[frame]Image[/frame]

the loops on this heavy metal Beast are a bit like what I mean, not so heavy duty for my tailgate, but approximatly that shape, the straps from the Tonneau could loop through those and buckle up above[frame]Image[/frame]

on the whole I'm chuffed to naffi breaks with it, Tony sent me his last one, but if he gets more interest he has a professional seamstress run them up using some templates he's made, the whole lot, including the chain covers and four buckles, p&p came to £240. He only takes cheques, he admits to not being too computer savvy, he's old school. If you want one give him a bell 01613378383.[frame]Image[/frame]

starting with the chain covers, I attached the chain end to a rifle cleaning rod using masking tape and threaded it through the canvas sleeve. Here it is appearing at the other end, peel off the tape and withdraw the metal rod.
