Gearbox speedo drive

Hi All,

My speedo needle has been giving me problems by oscillating and under reading.

After investigation at the gearbox end I find that the speedo gear on the third motion shaft

can quite easily be turned by finger through the speedo pinion hole in the side of the box.

I would like to ask (optimistically) if this can be re tightened with the box in situ,or if any

other problems may exist. It is mated to a 1275 engine.

Any comments would be gratefully received.
