One cylinder isn't firing properly.
Could be as simple as a plug lead off, or as complex as a burnt out valve.

Probably not oil - likely just 'petrol' - from too much choke or too rich mixture. Take the plugs out and clean them (NOT a wire brush) or fit a new set. Don't mix up the plug leads!

Just fit new plugs - one at a time (so the leads don't get mixed up) and then start up and see if the noise has gone.......

How many plugs look oily?
You adjust the mixture using the jet nut under the carb, and test it with the lift pin also under the carb.
You can mark the leads with labels or paint so they don't get mixed up.

If only one or two plugs look oily then take them all out then spin the engine over on the starter, ignition OFF, and compare how much pressure each cylinder exerts on your thumb over the plug hole and report back.

I remember quite a while ago now, a little sand blasting plug cleaner machine, I used to wonder if any grit would be left in the plug afterwards so didn't invest in one. Probably an unnecessary concern!

Oh yes -'sand' blasting plugs was all the rage. Hopefully it wasn't actually 'sand'. These days - doesn't seem to be the need - plugs just go on and on.......

It is also worth looking at the running engine in the dark.
Then you can see any sparks going astray.
It's best to try and keep the leads away from each other and the engine as much as possible.

If you see sparks dancing about - all is NOT well with the coil/HT leads/spark plug covers.
