indicators playing up

Post by MriavGraves »

my olive has decided that she cant be bothered to flash her indicators. When i indicate left or right the buzzer that only used to work now and then is a constant buzz with a constant light on the stalk, front two indicators on car are on with out flashing and both back ones are off. This fault started with no warning wilst out driving one minute they were working the next they werent, if it wasnt for rear ones being off i would have thought flasher unit any one had any thing similer

I would check the flasher unit first with a known good one either this or a bulb has blown if it's none of these then check for broken and or dirty corroded connections.

Strange that BOTH rear lamps have failed, together. I would check the bulbs anyway - and perhaps a common earth point has failed?

Either that - or you have pulled the wire connections apart. When you have a failure - always look to what was done immediately before the failure...backtrack and reverse any changes made...

Your Minor is a 1969 isn't it? If so, the flasher unit should be under the bonnet. It's a small silver cylinder usually fixed to the bulkhead:[frame]Image[/frame]

It's NOT the flasher unit when both rear bulbs are not lighting up. Are all the other rear lamps ok??

There's a wiring diagram 'sticky' here: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=28295

'buzzer box beside flasher unit' ??? You got me there! Barry's 'simplified' wiring diagram is excellent - well worth printing a copy off and laminate it - and carry it in the car.

I take it by your post bmc that the small box beside flasher unit is not original for a 69 moggy, come to think of it it dose look as thow its quite new, so dose a 69 moggy suppose to have a on off buzz when indicators are on, or is it just the little green bulb on end of stalk the only indication that the indicators are on

That little box is certainly not standard - if it is just a 'buzzer' -then I can't see how it could affect the rear flasher bulbs, and not the fronts But as long as it's fixed - be happy!

After the excellent engine bay example by LouiseM, when i touch the little box beside flasher unit it stopped screaming ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh and went to normal tick tock heard front indicators go on and off played with wires went on constant again with ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh from little box so i made sure wire was secure and wont come loose by jiggling about with driving, and it tick tock fine indicators flashed stalk bulb flashed green every things fine then go to brothers house and every time you apply breaks ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh whilst indicating, so got douglas sit it seat, foot break on and indicator on. front indicators on and you guessed it ah, at the rear the side the indication was for with foot break pressed stop light was on off on off only the foot break makes this happens with lights on wiper on heater on interior light on indicators work as they should for each side i will just drive with out using breaks untill monday lol then take box out of circuit and see if that cures it

Look at the earth point at the back, not the flasher unit.

As I suggested way back - it's an EARTH problem at the rear lights! Just remove the silly little screaming box and throw it away.......
