I'm currently babysitting a Series II for a friend who has gone back to Germany for a month or so.
The woodruff key from the impeller shaft of the water pump has come away, meaning that the fan pulley was just spinning on the shaft without turning the pump. I have managed to source another woodruff key and have got the water pump on the bench ready for repair.
My main question is: does the woodruff key sit in the groove of the shaft with the curved side facing upwards or with the curved side sitting in the groove?
Sorry if it seems like a stupid question... but I want to make sure I get it right.
Cheers.

Thank you.
It looks a rather stupid design to me... I can see it happening again!

It should be 'trapped' in there - no chance for it to come out...........

The outer end of the Woodruff key should be fitted flush with the shaft and the pulley shaft tapped over it which will square the key in the slot. (not very well worded)
