New member and wheel cylinder fixing screw sizes.

Post by O.Osborne »

Hello all, I just picked my self up a 1968 four door minor. It's had one lady owner from new and has obviously been loved.
We picked it up for £400!

It's not been on the road for around ten years so as you would imagine the wheel cylinders are seized. As new ones are inexpensive I decided to just renew them along with the lines and flexi hose.

All I need to know is the thread type and size of the front wheel cylinder fixing screws. They look like BSF to me but does the smaller screw have a reduced hex head or is it a stock item I could buy from a local nut and bolt stockist?

Here's Horace the Morris;

Hi and welcome!

Looks like you have got a bargain there :D

Im not sure off hand what size the socket is for the smaller bolt, but when you order new ones they have a much bigger head than the original ones. Heres a link to East Sussex Minors of the brake parts,

Good luck with getting back on the road.

Welcome to the forum. Top tip - don't buy the 'pattern' front wheel cylinders, get the 'genuine' ones. But seemingly the pattern rear cylinders are fine. The larger screw is 1/4" UNF and the smaller one has a 3/16" UNF thread as far as I remember - it's been a while....
