1956 MM 1000 Prices...
Hello everybody.
I have just registered and I am looking to find out a little information. Does anybody out there have a UK price list or pricing information for the 'new' Minor 1000 models in 1956 or 1957?
Thanks in advance.
Rich.

Hi,
I'd email Danny Hopkins at 'Practical Classics' magazine, they always seem to be quoting the 'price when new' in various articles, I'm sure they could either tell you or point you in the right direction.
Best wishes,
Mike.

Re: 1956 MM 1000 Prices...
According to the ABC of British Cars for those years, the following prices are listed (new model out in '57):
1956 (still splitscreen and 803cc engine)
2 dr: £560 17s. 0d.
convertible: £560 17s. 0d.
4 dr: £593 17s. 0d.
traveller: £635 2s. 0d.
traveller de luxe: £659 2s. 0d.
1957 (new model with 948cc engine plus other detail improvements)
2 dr: £602 17s. 0d.
2 dr deluxe: £628 7s. 0d.
convertible: £602 17s. 0d.
convertible de luxe: £628 7s. 0d.
4 dr: £638 17s. 0d.
4 dr de luxe: £668 17s. 0d.
traveller: £683 17s. 0d.
traveller de luxe: £708 12s. 0d.
It also lists some optional extras like Automatic transmission £172 10s., Overdrive £63 15s. and Manumatic clutch at £50 extra, though I would have thought these were for the larger Oxford, Cowley and Isis models.

One further question if I may, were these prices inclusive or excluding purchase tax? (I assume this is the ex-purchase tax pricelist as purchase tax in '56 was running at 50%! This would make an 803cc convertible £840)
Re: 1956 MM 1000 Prices...
In the Daily Mail Motoring guide for 1956 the 2 door was £602.17 shillings, including £201.17 shillings tax.The convertible was the same price, and the traveller was £683.17 shillings including £228.17 shillings tax.

As Rasputin says, these prices would include purchase tax.

Don't say that - I'd have to dig up the rest of the front garden!

This is all great information, thank you.Rasputin wrote:In the Daily Mail Motoring guide for 1956 the 2 door was £602.17 shillings, including £201.17 shillings tax.The convertible was the same price, and the traveller was £683.17 shillings including £228.17 shillings tax.
For the purpose of perspective and just out of interest, does the Daily Mail list the saloon and cabriolet prices for the Volkswagen?
Re: 1956 MM 1000 Prices...
I n the 1956 guide the volkswagen saloon was £635.2 shillings including £212.12 shillings tax,and the convertible was £1006.7 shillings including £336.7 shillings tax.
