Some parts just don't last

My Hayter lawnmower is used about 1 hour a week, and about 35 weeks a year. I admit that it's kept in a shed and never really serviced, lying idle over winter; but today I had to clean the spark plug - and it's only 30 years old.

Note, the plug was only cleaned, not replaced; and the mower usually starts on the first pull. I wonder whether the current mower offerings will still be going in 2042?

Im a gardener and the mowers I use at peoples houses are always falling apart,but one persons mower which I use keeps on going as it old.The one I use at home is a Ransomes and was 50 years old 3 weeks ago as it was bought on my dads 30th birthday and now he is 80, apart from replacing the spark plug last weekend it keeps going.

It looks like Morris Minor owners like old things driving 40 plus year old cars and using 30 plus year old mowers

My Hayter Harrier 41 has just expired. The starter pins will not engage, the engine hunts and if it is switched off for more than 5 mins when hot it will not start. I took it to my local repair shop and was told that the Techimeh engine was no longer made and parts were not available. Current mowers use a Briggs and Stratton engine.
Anyone want a mower for spares?

Mike just buy an engine off ebay to replace the Techumseh and get a few years more or better still buy a Honda HR

I have a second hand ATCO cylinder lawn mower. I can't remember exactly when I bought it and I don't know how old it is but it does the business very well (all those lovely parallel stripes). How will I know when it is worn out?
