Anyone dismantled heater rheostat?

Just removed the heater assembly on my '59(round heater)to respray it.Last owner had fitted a heavy duty resistor with 3 position switch and bypassed the rheostat.I have removed the rheostat and given it a good going over with switch cleaner.Connected to the fan it switches off as it should and works fine in certain positions and increases/decreases the speed.However there are several flat spots where nothing happens.Has anyone had one apart to clean the wiper and coil?Theres just 3 tabs that need unbending but I'm a bit loathe to try it in case theres a complicated assembly of springs and other bits in there that I'll struggle to get back together.

My switch is the same so I would be interested as well.

Gently peal back the metal tags and you can then dismantle the switch, then rub down the contacts with fine wet and dry. I used to clean my heater switch regularly when the battery was pos earth but have rarely touched it since changing to neg earth.

Only just realised I put this in the wrong section(should have been in electrical).Anyway its now working great!My problem wasnt the coil it was very clean and untarnished.The underside of the wiper plate that carries one side of the circuit was green and not making good contact.Cleaned all up with wire wool and it now works throughout its whole range.
