so what is causing the engine no tto sprak on certain cylinders and it still start and run?

I detect a tiny hint of sarcasm from somewhere.
Try the other distributor, there is very little to go wrong with them unless they take a heavy impact.

Like an engine landing on it............ :roll: That obviously doesn't have the possibility of making the shaft run off centre to the points - thus not sparking on all 4 lobes.......... so it can't be that. :o Amazing how a discussion can go on for several posts - and then it slips out that the engine fell over on the dizzy....... but obviously that's not why it's now running poorly... I give up on this one.
