Smiths Speedo
I have a '56 splittie that has a black-faced speedo (SN4423) in MPH and KM - flat glass front (not original as it reads 10 mph faster that Mini Mi goes) 12 o'clock is 50 Mph. I have just found a Yellowish Metallic faced one SN(4477) out of a rusted old Traveler in a breakers yard just in mph with a slightly domed glass - The high-beam light at the top being at 45mph. Does anyone know what and early MkII should really have and is the one I've found a better bodge that the black-faced speedo? Thanks for any help

Hi,

Regards,
Mike.

Re: Smiths Speedo
Don't know the TPM figure but gold coloured one is correct for 948, think they read to 80MPH.
Of more interest is this scrapped traveller, if you took the speedo because it was a splitscreen - there are very few splitscreen travellers about.

Re: Smiths Speedo
I think 'Jowett' is right, in that the correct speedo for a 948 should only read up to 80, that said you can always get your gold one recalibrated. Check out the link below if you ever need to do this, I find him to be very good.
By the way, what was the name of the scrapyard and where is it, someone might fancy rescuing this traveller (or using it to help rescue another)...........
Best wishes,
Mike.

Re: Smiths Speedo
I admire your enthusiasm
- But Morris traveler NOT split screen (my Morris saloon is)
And it was an empty rust bucket apart from the bonnet jewelery
AND - I'm keeping the place secret - UNTIL I go back and get a near perfect front bumper.
The rest is real rubbish - back all collapsed, engine gone
I do however, possibly, have a chrome winder and inside door handle (passenger) a front headlamp chrome roundel, bonnet decal (Morris logo) and the bonnet top piece. I was only after the hinges.
But I repeat - The rest is real rubbish - except for the four black control knobs

Re: Smiths Speedo
Even the early bakelite knobs are worth a small fortune now, so you might want to get them aswell.
