engine power!!!

Having just changed the engine in 69 austin van i have noticed the lack of power through the gears and at top end are there any simple checks i can carry out to sort this problem!! I have also a 69 pick up which is a flying machine compard to the van . Any help would be appreciated.

We had a similar problem before with a Minor.

Which Austin van, by the way, and which engine, carb, etc?
