securon seat belt.

I have just received a securon seat belt fr my moggy.I have had a quick try ,but as this is very important regarding safety,i thought as always,to try and get someones help on here.I am confused already.Do i use existing fittings on the car(i dont think you can) or do i start drilling as the bolts provided will not fit they are too big.I am sure someone has fitted these,as always please help.My car is a 2 door 1967 1098.

Hi simmitc,i have just looked at the thread you gave me (thanks) The top upper bracket i have fitted to the original fitting on the b pillar,and the buckle is ok to fit but i will have to drill a bigger hole for it,through the floor where the original was fitted to make it secure.My problem is that the reel which can be fitted to the bottom just behind the b pillar,but where does the bottom buckle fit too ????? By the way i have checked the securion website and the set i have been sent is (i hope) the right ones for this model.

The bottom end of the belt can be bolted to the original mounting in the sill/floor wall. There should be a threaded hole of the correct size in that area, forward of where the reel has to go, no need to drill any further holes. The reel has to be directly underneath the shoulder height bracket, and so usually needs the right angle bracket supplied with the kit, with the bracket being bolted to the floor (with a suitable reinforcing plate. I hope that all makes sense.

Not familiar with the contents of your kit, but the buckle fixing needs some kind of load spreading device on the underside of the transmission tunnel, if it is not already suitably re-inforced. Something like a 2"/50mm square or somewhat larger diameter round plate/washer of about 2.5-3mm thick would suit the task.The fun part is holding the bolt head inside the car while you thread a nut and spreader on the underside! I have found that the bolt head in the car can be held securish with a pair of mole grips while you start the nut etc from underneath. Obviously much easier if 2 of you are doing the job, unless you employ "Only fools and horses chandelier" methods
As a matter of reference, the universal seatbelt mounting thread in these all-metric days is still 7/16" UNF, a bit of an anomaly (rather like the 3.5mm standard domestic switch/ socket mounting size)

I managed to fit it today,using one of the fixing plates in the kit.
