Plenty to get your teeth stuck into there
.
OVP 427 is not showing up as a number registered to a Morris on the DVLA's register. There are several explanations for this - either the car has been off the road since before the DVLA's records were computerised, the car has been declared as scrapped, or the number has been transferred to another car. Slightly concerning is that it appears as if the chassis plate has been removed from the bulkhead (should be high up on the driver's side, above where the wiring comes out). It may, of course, have been removed and stored somewhere else in the car.
I'd definitely advise joining the club, and request help in trying to identify it.
As an aside, the gearbox in the boot is of the 948 type (smooth case with the short 'remote' gear lever). The steering wheel and indicator switch is also not the original. Can't tell what that engine is, but I wouldn't be half surprised if that wasn't also a 948cc. This is a good thing in many ways - the 948 engine/box is a far better set-up than the original 803 items.

Re: hi, new here with ebay minor 800.
Just checked my source, the regn. OVP 427 hasn't be transferred to another vehicle, therefore either untaxed after 79/80? or regd. as scrapped AFTER that period.
There's an outside chance the regn. could be held on "retention"(?).
Chris

Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
Re: hi, new here with ebay minor 800.
Thanks for the quick reply and help guys.
well, if the number has been shifted to another car the new owner is plumb out of luck as this vehicle still has the points to retain it, assuming its on a kit car, then its on illegally. I'l be doing my best to get it back.if its shown as on a production vehicle then i guess it could have been reissued.would you be able to say what vehicle its listed on at your source Chris?
I meant to ring the dvla today but was welding sills etc in a friends moggy and got home ,then promptly fell asleep lol..
hmm the indicators are interesting, were they originally on the column or the dash?? wondering if it was part of a flashing indicator conversion perhaps??
yes i guess i better sign up to the club for help. going to need it i think lol.

Re: hi, new here with ebay minor 800.
ok I phoned the dvla. I must be getting old, sometimes forget places are open after 5 pm lol..
That reg number is not on record and has not been since 1968. hmm. That's a long time to be out of use, more to the point its a very short time to be on the road? wonder if i got the reg right. Anyone know when that style of plate was valid?? No fee to reclaim the reg, provided its done via a club.so I will join mmoc asap.

Not that it appears to apply in this case, fortunately, but your theory is a little flawed. The number could have been legally transferred to another vehicle by the then registered keeper of the vehicle and you would have no chance of "claiming" it back unless you could persuade the owner to sell it to you.wstead wrote: well, if the number has been shifted to another car the new owner is plumb out of luck as this vehicle still has the points to retain it, assuming its on a kit car, then its on illegally.

Re: hi, new here with ebay minor 800.
if thats the case and you can't get the number back, you could still apply for an age related number plate if you put a Morris Minor engine and gearbox in there, rather than something modern. If you mod it, you'll probably end up on a Q plate.
smile, you never know, you might be winning.

true, but only if its a cherished number transfer. but then this morris would i assume have another reg number. though i have no idea about reg number swaps other than the requirement to have an mot before a transfer, no idea if it applies to numbers on retention. I was thinking more of the situation where by a reg is simply put on a later built kit car with none of the original parts. very blinkered view i admit.
but as you say not relevant to this car, im guessing as Chris and POMM suggested the car has been scraped with the dvla and the number not reused. Hopefully no problem in reclaiming it.The chassis number may be a different matter.

Re: hi, new here with ebay minor 800.
My lowlight had been off the road from 1973 and ended up with an age related number as it didnt show up on the computer records at Swansea. I was able to get it sorted with help from the club, a heritage certificate and the best luck of finding an old MOT certificate between the parcel shelf and the battery box! The number was re-issued on a non transferable basis which Im quite happy with.
I also have a 1954 project thats been off the road since 1966, which was 12 years, probably more than most moderns will last.....
Anyway, its good that your number is able to be sourced on a computer, if they know it was last used in 1968 and what car it was attached to then you have a chance that it is still ok.

According to FPG, the regn hasn't been transferred.
Look for tax discs or get what you can from the guy you bought it from!
Odd the chassis plate is off - ask about this too!
