MOT Receipt style certs

Thats well done and congrats' Thats why car dealers don't like the new MoT certs. They can't bin the advisories anymore as was their practice in the past.

On the old certs you could bin the advisories but on the 'pass' sheet it has a box which says: 'Advisory notice issued: yes or no'.

The box underneath told you whether or not it had advisories.

Then that "forged MoT no matter how good it is will not get you a tax disc or convince plod that your rustbucket has an MoT because it hasn't. The post office, Plod and VOSA all know LIVE online that it aint got an MoT!

That's all well and good for them, my issue is how can I tell if I'm buying a car with a fake MOT if I don't have internet access at the point of sale.
Once I'm driving it, or trying to get a tax disc, it's too late to find out it's a duff one.

I do my homework the night before a viewing, it's really easy to ask the seller for all the relevent details (V5C number, Vin etc) and get the checks done. If they refuse assume guilt and walk away at that point. The one check that cost me £25 (can't remember the name of it), gave me all the insurance claim history on it and checked if current location of owner, address, name etc matched what was known to current insurance and DVLA. If I purchased the car they gave me two weeks free insurance to get the car home. You really need to be careful, because if you buy a stolen ringer by accident, it will be confiscated with no refund.

I see what you mean MarkyB, This is technology going to my head. If you view a car and you (ever get in a situation where you lost yer keys and yer mobile phone) Sorry just a little joke. But seriously if you don't have a tinternet phone then your'e stuffed really as you need to go on to DVLA website and enter the test cert number AND reg number.
I didn't think of a dishonest seller, never!

My Traveller passed yesterday and I received the new certificate. I have no problem with that and should I sell the vehicle I will be quite happy to point out the blank area where the advisories would have been if any were given.
As a purchaser I would also be pleased to see the same information.

My 59 Convertible passed this morning with the only issue being the rear exhaust clamp was a bit loose. It didn't warrant an advisory as it couldn't fall off so the certificate is nice and clean. Soon as I got home I tightened the clamp up which removed an annoying 'squeak' that I had failed to track down.............

The tester did comment on how good and efficient the brakes were as they did lock up the rollers! They are standard Minor on the rear with larger Wolsley drums on the front, with no servo assistance.

It is a pity though that it's not on watermarked paper which would improve peoples perception of it's authenticity.

What concerns me about the paper system and forgeries, is a forged bit of paper when buying a vehicle. Its now more work to establish wether a vehicle has MOT or not.

Personally, when selling a car in the future, I'll have the laptop to hand so any prospective buyer can look it up themselves, but gone are the days of seeing an ad in a paper, going over there and making an offer...

Anyone had their car MOT'd recently, very disapointed that we will no longer be issed a cerificate but instead a boring A4 printed piece of paper. The info says "this document is a receipt style certificate telling you that an MOT Test pass has been recorded on VOSA's database of MOT test results". For £52 I want an old style certificate with watermarks that I can add to the cars history file please.

After my mot test my garage still produced an old style certificate.
