Body paint

On early cars, with square I.D. plate on the bulkhead and the Morris numbering system, there are three paint finishes available (I don't know if this is the same post-splitscreen):

Synobel
Synthetic
Cellulose

My questions are: 1. what is synobel (sounds grossly illegal now), and 2., my car is finished in synthetic black, which is badly faded. It won't respond to t-cut, so what paint should be used to respray if synthetic doesn't exist anymore??

if you havent had the car from new or know its full history then the finish could be anything,I believe synobel was the old name for permobel,an oil based ici paint of the seveties not to sure about that though. The paint you should go for is cellulose safer and easier to work with. If you get some celly thinners and soak a small rag and place it onto a non important area(To you) on the paintwork and see what happens,if its oil base it will crinckle the paint ,if its synthetic it will probably do nothing ,if is celly it will soften the area .If it crinkles then its a barrier primer to cover it all ,or strip to metal or oil base repaint,if nothing then you can use celly or synth,now acrylic i think,if it softens then simple flatback and repaint in celly,GOOD LUCK

Thanks for that, though I will be farming the repaint out to a professional. It only needs the roof, drivers' door, boot lid and passenger side spraying; for some reason these were left out. I think the old fella who owned it all his life wanted to keep it as original as possible, but now these areas are badly faded and it looks terrible against the new paint.
