cleaning a sump

Post by tomas.geoghegan »

Hi Im doing a oil and filter change soon.
The oil is not that dirty
would it be a good idea to take the sump off and give it a clean too ?
Thanks in advance Tom

NO! If it ain't broke don't fix it. You will only cause problems getting the sump to seal afterwards.
With modern oils the dirt is held in suspension and trapped in the filter so there is no need to clean the sump

Only if you know the engine has stood for many years without use. Otherwise as ^^^^ - leave well alone !
