Re: 1275 engine - painted inside the block?
Good luck with it - I can't remember - but is it a big inlet valve 940 head you have ? That would be something to look for. And you may want to modify the dizzy slightly to get ~ 30 degrees mechanical advance. Do you know what degree number is stamped on the bob weight in the base? Sorry for the earlier confusion..... any questions - just ask!

Re: 1275 engine - painted inside the block?
No sadly the head is just the standard 1275 inlet of 1.31 as opposed to the 1.4 of the MG Metro and the like. I'm going to keep looking for that head at the right price so I have a spare. Unfortunately, the dizzy has gone awol - something to do with keeping the engine for about 25 years but moving house about 7 times during that period so I'm just going to buy a new one - which do you suggest? and would you stick with points or go electronic? It was the same with the crank pulley but have managed to find one of those! I blame the Borrowers! I also have the Midget 3.9 diff along with the Midget gearbox which hopefully will make a car with reasonably good cruising capability. I'll be wanting to use it to attend a lot of events when its finished!

I recently got given a 1275 along with my new shell ... I'll let you know what I find when I open it up.

Despite all the crud inside from my years of neglect, the one I have is in very good nick. I've probably replaced, with new, many more bits than I needed to but I just wanted this to be a really good engine for a good few years to come so have spent a bit more time and effort making sure its as good as I can get it to be. Good luck with yours - your doing a great job on that shell and so quickly too!

The dizzy I would get is a 45D -from simonbbc or accuspark. I would stick with points but folks seem happy enough with their electronic kit. You could ask them if they can supply it ready modified to give ~ 30 degrees mechanical advance.

Yes I wondered about the 45D. Will certainly ask about the advance too.
