Just letting you blokes know that I have just picked up my spare parts car ! I had a look at it late last year just before the start of our harvest period and by the time the harvest had finnished the owner had gone on holidays so I had to wait until now when he had returned. When I aproached him he was only too happy for someone to have it if they could use any parts off it so I got it for free. It has had the front guards, windscreens and some smaller parts taken off it I would think by someone doing up a later model car but this was done before the previous owner bought the farm it was dumped on. It still has all the driveline and the engine still turns over, the gearbox still shifts smoothly on the lever, the rear axle still turns over and the steering is still free. It also has a good radiator (which I need), all the electrical components and the dashboard complete with unmolested guages. When we went out to pick it up I took my 4x4 air compressor with me and thought I would "try" and pump up the tyres thinking as it had been there since the 1960s I would be a bit hopefull, surprise surprise all 4 of them went up but the passengers side front had been sitting in the same spot for so long the rim had rusted out between the bead and the centre letting the tube poke out through the hole in the steel ! It nearly made it onto the trailer but blew out just as it was coming off the ramp onto the bed of the trailer.
As you will see in the photo I will attach, it is pretty rough, if you look under the car at the rear you can see the petrol tank (well, half of it) laying there conected by the hose, it had been laying under a tree and quite a bit of leaf matter got in to the boot when someone left the boot up for years but considering its history it could have been a lot worse.
Mike Perry has identified it as a 1951 model by the numbers, serial # SMM115721 and engine # 115009
Thankyou very much for doing that Mike !
Anyway, now that I have this car for parts I don't think I will have anything else much to find to restore the 1948 car I intend to so all I have to do is finnish my current project and get into it. (still looking for a split rear bumper but will have plenty of time to look, and have a later model MM one if I cant find one for a while)
Happy Minoring,
Graham
