904 NKL

Post by tobiasballard »

Hello, I dont know if anyone can help me. I am trying to find my mothers Morris Minor that my father bought new for her in 1962. The registration number was 904 NKL. I have learned that this registration number was sold in about 2004 from the car. I have no more information. Is there any way the car can be found from old records showing what chassis number was given that registration number in 1962, then see if the chassis number is still registered within the Morris club? I know its a long shot. The car was a four door model in light blue. Anyone who can even begin to help me with this quest would be very welcome. Regards, Toby Ballard

Hi Toby,

It might be quite difficult to trace the car, especially if the number was sold some years ago. If you had the number that was re-issued to the car, after the original was sold, you could look it up on the DVLC website to see if it is still licenced. The link is here:

Aside from that, it's almost impossible to trace the car via chassis number. Many of us have tried to trace our old cars and have even written to the DVLC for any information. They will release information to you if there is a just cause for doing so - for example if you were hit by another car who failed to stop etc. but they won't simply release information to allow you to trace a current keeper. A link to a thread I am running is here, which outlines my search for my first car - you'll see what is involved by reading this.

You could ask whether the car originally registered as 904 NKL and re-rregistered in 2004 is still on the road or whether it is on a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notice) but I'm not sure they would tell you waht the current reg. no is. They might and it's worth asking but don't hold your breath!

Good luck in your search :D
