What ho. There is a leak on the carb of my Series II Minor (original, completely standard engine and carb). Fuel economy is 29 mpg - a very poor figure for an 803!!

My mechanic says it is the choke but I thought S.U's didn't have a choke as such? Anyway it seems to be leaking from something connected to the float chamber, just forward of the main jet. There was a nut on it which I checked for tightness but it's still leaking.
P.S. It was also running too rich so I adjusted the jet upwards a few turns at a time as per the manual, but this has had no impact on fuel economy either. Could there be a connection?
Any ideas?
I will upload some photos soon to give you a better picture...
