He's probably washing of the Woodbine residue from the postmans fags.
Where is the 50 gallon drum of Blue paint they sprayed them with before selling them to the public?
In the next shed I guess.

I remember that my Science teacher had an ex GPO van in the staff carpark at my High school around 1978, the van was overpainted red but you could still see the post office livery under the thin coat of paint.

Of five vans found, four are up and running, most with MOT's. One van has been exported to "Down under " it was fully restored. One of them has dissapered, SGH ??? I just can't remember the number. I did hear through the grapevine, that Bull Motif, may have owned it at one point ?? If anyone has any leads on this van I'd be interested to know about it. The number will come to me. After much negotiation, all five were bought for £550.00. The owner of the scrap yard was very very helpful, I'll never forget her, without her help all would have been scrapped. All came with thier original log books. They were passed around a bit before they finally settled, with owners, who were serious about restoring them.

My thanks to Chris Stevens of the POMM (Post office Morris Minor ) Register. He has forgotten more about former G.P.O Vans
than any of us can remember. The Missing van is SGH 349, must be out there somewhere !

Now what would you do with this van ? 100% restoration including a re-spray ? I sometimes think there is a case for leaving some things as found.

Nah! Repaint it, fit headlamp peaks + hubcaps, add a metal sunvisor, new nos plates, chrome mirrors,a vomit inducing sticker saying 'I luv my Moggy' in the windscreen...and it'll be spoilt, but you'll win prizes!
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

originality is a fragile thing, something fascinating for everyone to see. Providing you can slow up any deterioration, keep it like it is.

Leave her as she is, commercials always look better with a few dents and scrapes!

saddens me to see "concours" commercials, quite glad there's no ex-GPO varients about!
