KFO 702 Saloon Rally Make-over

Post by Trog »

I,ve got some time and cash to get my 56 saloon back on the road. I'd like to make-over the car in the 60/70's rally car trim :o If anyone has any period pictures a moggy in competition I'd luv to see them and get some ideas :D I'm thinking of the clubman racing around the local farm/airfield at the weekend then running it to work on Monday.

First couple of points for thought: When did the rubber bonnet hooks come into fashion, will they look odd on a Mog? Anyone got the RAC regs of a 60's clubman car?[frame]Image[/frame]

Arc welding isn't really suitable for this type of work - the metal is a bit too thin. You could do it, no doubt, but it'll be very much easier with a good MIG welder.

I thought as much and on the look out for a "gas less" set, I'm also going too email the pics to a panel supplier to see what they suggest, can't make head nor tail of what I'd need by looking on the BM website :(

Thanx TD but I don't think I can do it justice that quick  I've put this months moggy budget against the repair panels. I'm guessing at 150-£200 from web research :x keep them crossed. I'm confident I can cope with the chop and fit and get things tacked/self tapped together but the final weld up might need an expert?

I did drain the tank before letting go with the grinder :D you still reckon it's a risk having the tank in? can't smell any fuel :D

You may not be able to smell the vapours, they are the things you need to worry about. Remove it to be on the safe side!
