Handbrake cable fixing

Post by wishbone »

The mounting braket for the handbrake cable on the left hand rear axle/spring section has rusted and broken off. I'm not sure which part to ask for to repair it. Can someone tell me please? Also it looks like I may need to take the U bolts off to change the braket so is it worth doing any other maintenance with the springs while i'm at it?

Do you mean the square brass end piece into which the cable sits, or the bracket to which the brass bit bolts? If the former, then it is part of the handbrake cable assembly, just buy a new cable. If it is the metal trhough which the U-bolts pass, then it's will be shown here: http://morrisminorspares.co.uk/shop/ind ... 3b48a50d9e (DIF166) but unfortunately is currently shown as out of stock. You can try other parts suppliers, second hand from a scrap yard (try Pop's Place at Lowestoft), club spares; or weld the broken bit back on - it should still be attached ot the cable. Good luck, I've never heard of that bit breaking before :o

Thanks, it's the rear axle mounting bracket then. I'll see if I can get one elsewhere!
