Hi again
I replaced the clutch on my 1971 traveller a while ago (posh borg & beck one) and noticed some vibration ever since. It's in time with engine speed, so I assumed something wasn't aligned correctly on the clutch or I'd baffed somethign out of place while replacing it.
I have the engine out now and sure enough I can see that the main body of the clutch is central on the flywheel, but the part which the release bearing pushes against to release the clutch is off-centre. so to be clear : It's the part whcih is attached to the body of the clutch via 3 springs/levers and moves in and out as you push the clutch pedal.
I removed the clutch so all the springs become relaxed, and said actuating -er- plate is pushed up out of the clutch body a bit- in that position, it appears central. So it's only when the clutch is bolted on that it's pulled off centre.
Hopefully you understand what I mean if you've seen a clutch ! I've not played with them much so don't have too good an intuition for it (yet!).
Is this mi-alignment a common thing ? Is it something I should have adjusted before putting the clutch on ? I'd like to arm myself with info before putting the engine back in because if I get it wrong again I'll have the vibration back, which is a pain & noisy. It'll mean I can't hear the rear suspension creaking.
Thanks in advance ...
Doug

Re: Eccentric clutch bit thingy
Are you bolting the clutch down square, a bit at a time on opposite bolts? Not tightening one bolt then going round tightening all the other bolts in a circle.
When the clutch is fully bolted on to the flywheel everything shoud look even, if it does not then do not carry on refitting the engine

Re: Eccentric clutch bit thingy
Ta for your thoughts -
I put all the bolts in and did them up a turn or so at at time each, going to the opposite bolts.
I see what you mean though - if I'd done one up then all the others I guess that could have pulled things out of alignment. Wonder if I still managed to do that somehow.
There appear to be adjusters on the clutch for positioning something but I'm loathe to touch those as it looks central when it's off the flywheel. (besides, haven't worked out what they do fully yet!)

Re: Eccentric clutch bit thingy
Could this be the same problem as the other clutch vibration thread?

yep - it's the same car, same problem (sorry I forgot I'd already mentioned this)
it's just now I have the engine out, I have more info - I can see what it is that's out of alignment.
cheers
Doug

Can you post some photos (in focus) of the clutch bolted onto the flywheel and off the flywheel
