The last lowlights..

Post by Alex'n'Ane »

I was wondering what was the chassis number of the last known surviving lowlight? I know lhd rhd and ckd? had different chassis number allocations so could be awkward to say.. Is there a chassis number from which highlight wings were fitted?

According to "Original Morris Minor" lowlight wings were discontinued chassis no 83389 RHD, 81594 LHD 2 door and tourer. 4 doors were already high lights as were N. American cars.
The last lowlight on my register may be 83377 except that I do not know if it is a 2 or 4 door. The next nearest is a tourer, 83374

On the German site it is about the same text, only counted from the other side:
January 1951
RHD#83390 LHD#81595 - all Minors built with headlamps mounted in the wings with sidelamps placed where the headiamps used to be.
All wing mounted headlamps were 7" instead of former 5" units.
see: http://www.morris-minor.de/history.shtml

The only way to be sure, is try to get each MM in the register, with enough information.

Mike, I still read : List revised - May 2011
Are there no more MM's for the list since may?

Or is it the time problem?

My personal copy is up to date but I still have to transfer all the South African Series MMs on to the website version of the register and then cross check the entries. Been a bit busy lately but hope to have it sorted by the end of the month.
I started the register by collecting the info necessary to keep identify each car but as time goes on I realise that there is more significant info which is worth recording such as LHD, RHD or CKD which affects the year of manufacture so I have added this info to the registration form which owners can complete, along with points of interest
