10007 users??
I see there are 10007 users listed for this forum - but many many of them have zero or single digit post numbers. Surely it would be wise to 'tidy' it up by eliminating single digit posters that haven't used the forum for (say) 2 years ??

Re: 10007 users??
Hi BMC,
Can I ask where on the site you have access to this info as I've never come across it ?
Thanks Neil

@goldfish - go to http://www.mmoc.org.uk/messageboard.php and scroll down to the bottom of the page
You can do the same on almost all 'forums' out there

Our other car is a 2009 Citroen C6 3.0 HDi a 'future classic' and far rarer than a Morris Minor!!

That's because you don't need to be a member of 'The Club' to see most of the forums and get the answers you need without paying the subscription fee.mike.perry wrote:Its 10008 now, more than the MMOC membership
Maybe another option is to move more of the technical support forums into the members only area?

Re: 10007 users??
Unless the number of registered users has a detrimental affect on the performance of the website, then I can't see what the problem is?
The high number of members helps to make the site look more popular, which could help encourage more people to join.
There is the potential for the people that have only posted 'once or twice' might come back for more help and, if their account has been terminated, be informed that they're no longer registered, which would put them off.
Moving the technical information into a 'members only' section would go against Promoting the Preservation and Use of the Postwar Morris Minor that you see at the top of this page.
Unless that should be changed to Promoting the Preservation and Use of the Postwar Morris Minor... if you pay us.

Re: 10007 users??
Not many forums have that number of members - it's quite a number, and unwieldy I would think. But it does show how popular the Minor is ! So - I wonder what has happened to all these single digit posters - were they just curious - or did they just decide a Minor is not for them?

Re: 10007 users??
Many people watch this site for ages without posting. Some go off informed then buy a car and start to post. We have people watching for the right car to come up for sale.
Some only use it to sell a car. Ok, but it does mean that we usually get to view a car for sale before it goes to Ebay. Most are sold on here.

Re: 10007 users??
I have 23,000 'registered accounts' over at C4owners. A lot sign up to access the odd document, but never post or comment.bmcecosse wrote:Not many forums have that number of members - it's quite a number, and unwieldy I would think. Ones that do occasionally post when first joining may get PM's from current members asking for a response and those messages 'fail' and make the database even larger and unwieldy to back up and restore, so I 'culled' a lot of old inactive accounts
A large database can slow searches and other functions down but so far MMOC seems OK, but I don't know what the backup situation is
Some accounts will be 'spammers' looking to get a link back to their (or another) site to help with Google Ranking, but again I haven't seen many of those on MMOC
@Goldfish, They didn't have computers, calcualtors, GCSE's etc. when I went to school either

That's because I filter out a lot of spammers at the registration stage, so they never get on the board in the first place (12,500 ish since the end of October 2010, when I started the filtering). Our dedicated team of moderators deal with any dodgy looking ones that still get thru, usually before they actually post anything. I occasionally go back thru the lists of recent members and remove any users that have spamming /dubious links in their profiles.C6Dave wrote: Some accounts will be 'spammers' looking to get a link back to their (or another) site to help with Google Ranking, but again I haven't seen many of those on MMOC

As ASL642 says:-
I’m one of the many people who watched the site for a long time without posting
.
As a result of the info I picked up and the general feeling of how helpful everyone seemed I joined the MMOC
.
Overall this blog is a good advert for us, though as in life some of you/us “characters” might come across from polite and helpfu
l to slightly Abrupt/abrasive,
but still very helpful
Certainly not boring
Best Regards
Reg

Don't forget all the 1000s of people who have once owned a Morris Minor over the last 60 years worldwide! I am sure people just have a look out of interest and a bit of nostalgia

My 1956 Series 11 Traveller! Bought when I was 17 (1985)....sold 6 years (1991) later......bought back 9 years after that! (2000) With 6 different owners in the middle, what a lucky boy I am!

How about users who have posted 10007 times?

Re: 10007 users??
I looked at the site for at least 18 months before I joined, great site, and then when I found one to buy I joined that day
It gives people confidence to have so much support available when buying what is after all an old car/van.
To paraphrase an old advert
"Your never alone with a moggie"

Re: 10007 users??
Don't forget that there are many of us on here who do not live in the UK and as such there is little benefit in joining the MMOC, we may join our local Morris clubs but why would we join the UK club?
After many years of blogging you discover that there will always be more lurkers than active participants in any forum that is a good thing it means that the good news of the continued existence of the Morris Minor is getting out there.
Further have you ever considered that if every one who is a member of this forum was as active as some of the top posters that it would become unworkable?
As a relative Newbie here I think this is a great forum just the way it is and long may it continue

Re: 10007 users??
Indeed Iain - my comment was about the number of Forum members who have signed up often years ago - and never posted, or perhaps single figure posts also years ago. But - the forum managers assure us it's not a problem - and are happy for it to continue as is. And yes - it certainly IS the best forum I know of - and I have used/contributed to quite a few motoring forums over the years

I've noticed that, Roy! In fact, I sometimes wonder how you find ime to do anything else!
