MODERN HEATED REAR SCREEN ??

Post by lambrettalad »

Hi as anyone fitted one of these ? If so how is it working and was/is it worth it ? About £150 plus fitting?
Cheers Alex

I guess you will need to have an alternator to keep it going!

The saloon one clears the screen in a couple of minutes. The traveller versions take a bit longer but still work well. Both provide excellent visibility. You can also get a heated front screen that clears ice and mist in seconds (literally). If you use the car regularly then the modern heated screens are a worthwhile investment - I've fitted them to all three Minors, and wouldn't have done the 2nd and 3rd if the first hadn't worked  As you need to operate the screens for only a short period, then the dynamo should be OK, but if you need the rear one a lot in slow moving traffic then an alternator would help.

I have one fitted with the dynamo for nearly 10 years, its not as quick as simmitc's but is very good and as long as its not left running all the time shouldnt drain the battery. I fitted mine myself, just the same as fitting a normal screen. The one I bought didnt have any wire or switches or even a wiring diagram but its a simple matter of taking power from the fuse box and running a wire inside the car to the window. Make sure you fit an illuminated switch so you know its on :D

Bought form ESM

Too many Minors so little time.....

As David said, fitted myself in same way as a standard screen. For a saloon it's one terminal to earth and the other to a switched positive supply. Available from Morris Minor Centre Birmingham, ESM, and probably others as well.
