indicators
im fitting a new wiring harness to my 55 splity to incorperate indicators do i need a 8 way relay or just a flasher unit the new harness has only got the 3 flasher unit wires
Re: indicators
Depends if you want the interrupter brake light flashing arrangement or not. Doesn't sound like the correct harness for a 55.......

Re: indicators
The usual suppliers sell correct harnesses but modified for flashing indicators. Of course Roy is right about needing an 8-way relay for the interrupter brake light flashing arrangement. That was the period solution.bmcecosse wrote:Depends if you want the interrupter brake light flashing arrangement or not. Doesn't sound like the correct harness for a 55.......
Does the harness have separate wires for front and rear indicators? (and does the car have separate indicators?) If so you just need the flasher unit.

A '55 is a Series 11 which does not have a relay or brake light interupter.
If you have trafficators and indicators you can operate them from the same switch. There is a wiring diagram in Technical Info on the Series MM website, http://seriesmm.mmoc.org.uk

Re: indicators
Oooooh -right - I thought they had by that time. So it should have a wiring harness for trafficators ?? Still the wrong harness then ?

Re: indicators
If you want to operate trafficators and indicators from the same switch then you need two flasher units, one for each side, after the switch. A normal indicator circuit would have one flasher unit before the switch

Re: indicators
That's the easy way to do it - it can be made much more complicated if you want........

Re: indicators
Just wire them on a separate three position switch. That's exactly what one of our club members has done. There is just one single wire from the switch to each trafficator and one single (live with ignition on) wire to the switch. You can use the original switch with the flashing indicators and add another for the trafficators.

Re: indicators
Trafficators work much better if you use them regularly, which is why I operate them off the same switch

Re: indicators
MANY THANKS FOR ALL YOUR ADVICE
Re: indicators
I have fitted a new wiring harness to my MM and connected the semaphores but not yet any flashers. I asked auto sparks to wire for flashers as well as semaphores. Sure enough I have spare wiring for the flashers at each sidelight position. Under the dash I have two spare wires with female spade connectors. Would these be to work two flasher units Mike?

Re: indicators
If they are the correct colour code then probably, have you seen the wiring diagram? You should have 2 x 2pin flashers, one for each side, minimum rating 42W, or if you are towing FL9s. Connect the feed wires to the trafficator wires. If you can work out the wiring for a flashing warning light then let me know
