On The Road Again!

Post by Boomlander »

Hi All,
Finally took my first spin in "Jethro" yesterday after nearly 30 years since I last drove a moggy!
What a complete shock trying to sort out the gears with the stick's large movement area compared with modern cars.
Seems to drive very nicely apart from the crossplies following every line and bump in the road.
Had a couple of circuits of the village and got quite a few admiring glances (at least I think they were admiring) as I continually forgot to close the trafficators after turning. Managed to get a "Fart" like Satan's trombone when changing up at speed, that brought back happy memories of my first Minor.
Got a few small jobs to do, mainly interior trim, missing grommets etc, but on the whole really pleased with the car.
Also found out that the engine is a 948 instead of the original 803 by the unit number but the original chassis number is very faint so I assume that the number on the MOT document is correct even though it seems to have one prefix letter too many!
It reads EBAH227488 so maybe someone can tell me if this is correct or not.
Hope the weather stays fine so me and the wife can give the car a good long run tomorrow down the country lanes.

Chassis no should read FBA 11/227488.
If you have the 948 engine I would recommend fitting the 948 gearbox and diff if not already changed as the 803 ratios are poorly suited to the more powerful 948 engine. If you want to keep the original gear lever then I believe that you can swap the tail section of the gearbox.
