Yes, MOT exemption would be a really bad thing regardless of date. It would be the first nail in the coffin for regularly used classics and the way in for legislation for use in pre arranged classic car events and parades only etc, or some such nonsense.
The free road tax, whilst very nice for us all, is slightly worrying as it puts our cars into a different catagory from modern cars and again a potential dateline for limitations of use.
Plenty of that sort of thing in other countries....
Incidentally my local MOT station were testing some 1908 era vehicle the other day, and applying the rules with due commonsense. Mainly down to visual check on steering linkages and brake function (rather than efficiency). If it was my car I'd still be very happy to have it given the once over. On Saturday there was someone charging about the district in a Foden steam lorry (after the first sighting I could hear the steam whistle from various directiuons during the afternoon). It was great to see, though I've no idea what sort of test something like that would have to pass (prob exempt at a guess)...
