Troop The Colour

Post by sloopjohnrb »

I've just bought a new self cancelling type indicator unit, on the column, for a March 1962, 948cc.

The NEW unit has the following colours:
Brown
Green & white
Green & maroon/red
Green & cream/white
Black
Green
-------------------
The old wiring units under the dash are:
Purple
Purple
in a duo holder

Yellow & green
Blue & green
Cream/white
in a trio holder

Green in a mono holder.

I can't marry which colour is supposed to go with which.

Please can you help?
Best wishes

Purple wires go to the horn(s). Black is always ground/earth. What sort of indicators has your car got? Is it the separate amber flashers? I imagine it doesn't retain trafficators.

Hi
It has 2 clear white to the front, which is also the front sidelights.

2 red indicators to the rear, again part of the sidelights and also functions as brake lights.

Black goes to an Earth strap under the dash, but it@s the other 5 that are a puzzle.
I hope this helps.

Aha! Where are you? You have the same sort of setup as my Mog -- with the eight-way relay. You must have the larger white turnlights in the front, because of the year. I wish I had Mog! I could just inspect the wiring there...is your car left- or right-hand drive?

This may (or may not) help

I don't quite understand your colours.
The new unit should not have 2 green/whites and the old wiring should not have a white(or cream)
Hope this helps though
new brown will be the horn, connect to purple/black wires(one to each horn)
new green/red connect to old green/blue (LH flashers)
new green white connect to old green/yellow (RH flashers)
new black goes direct to earth
new green goes to whichever old wire is live when ignition is on (do you have a testlamp or meter to prove which is live?)
Whatever is left SHOULD be light green for the warning lamp

The colur has been well trooped.
Thanks to your advice, I got all the problem electrics sorted this morning.

Indicators go on and self cancel off, green warninbg luight works and the horn has been sounded for the first time in a long whiles.

The sequence went:
Black Earth.
New brown to old purple horn.
New green with red stripe to old green and blue.
New green with whitish stripe to old green yellow.
New green to tested live wire.
Remaining green to indicator warning lamp.

Thanmk you so much again.
Best wishes
