Oh the dust!

Hi all

Spent yesterday replacing my moggie's complete inner rear wheel arch and lip repair panel. Despite full eye, ear, hair and most importantly nose/mouth protection I still got completely covered with grinding dust. What do others do to minimise this dust and it's effects on body, garage and the environment? Would fitting an extractor fan to the garage help?

Regular sweeping out helps keep down the grinding dust. Extractor may help with the dust. Watch the grinding bits in the shower/bath as they can ruin it's surface

Or doing it outside on a windy day helps.

An extractor fan would help to spread the dust over the neighbour's washing that bit quicker

Yes definitely been using an old vacuum cleaner to clean the car/garage floor but need to think how to remove more of it without damaging my so far so good relationship with the neighbours. If I use a powerful enough extractor fan it should avoid any low-lying washing but might disrupt some flights.....

Dont do your grinding in an office. I speak from experience modifying server cabinets. Boy did it stink, the smell of obliterated grinding disc hung around for weeks after.

What are you grinding off?
If the discs aren't lasting long you are probably pushing too hard.

No the discs are lasting fine - I'm using 1mm which are great for neat cuts. Dust is heavy due to sheer quantity of major body surgery needed.
