Hello, I'm new

Post by FrazzleSC »

I thought I'd just introduce myself. I'm 19 and run a Rover 2000 as a daily drive, but I've just been offered a free Morris Traveller and I rather fancy it. Here are a few photos of the car in question.

It will be a very brave project - judging from the condition of that engine bay. Survey the whole car VERY carefully before getting involved.

The car was last on the road towards the end of 1984, and the February '85 tax disc is in the window. The wood is in excellent condition with no rot apparent there. The bonnet is superb, the front wings are relatively good with a spot of rust on the edges nearest the doors. The rear metal panels are in very good condition, and only really have surface rust and a few dents. The interior is fairly good, though I couldn't get the driver's door, or passenger door open very far, and didn't want to force them. I was able to squeeze into the front seat though, and I've established that the clutch is seized, though the gear lever moves through the gears with no problems. I reckon that the car has been white previously.
The underside is really quite a mess. The front grille panel is almost non-existant, and the underside where the bumper attaches has dissolved to a fair extent. The floors all seem very crusty, and there are rather a lot of holes present. Here are a few photos which show the level of corrosion.

The rear body panels are alloy so you should not get any rust problems but maybe some corrosion. Remember that the wood is structural and rust = money.

Didn't get the photos of the structure through, Frazzle.

"The underside is really quite a mess" -- sounds like me with Mog! Oh, no, it'll be fine...six months, it'll be on the road... If you're prepared for it, go ahead! But do be aware of the largeish likelihood that what you're getting into is a full strip-down and rebuild.
