Finally, the BOTTOM channels are also needing replaced, especially now I have destroyed one getting it out... what ARE they? I am thinking that the OUTSIDE one is this:

Is that correct? Plus, as asked previosuly, is it gum-gum and tacks to hold it in place?

And finally, finally, which is the right felt channel for the 'inner' glass channel? Is it this stuff again:

If so, what do I do about drainage holes? I'm presuming this doesn't have any? Do I drill UP through the drainage holes into it to ensure it drains properly?

Hi Arthur! When I changed all my channels they were all held in with DumDum and small screws - some of which unscrewed nicely and one or two were a bit of a pain! I replaced all the channels and made a really good job of sealing them with sealant and DumDum - and then realised that the new ones didn't have any drainage holes I then found that you can't get in with a dril to drill holes upwards through the channels because there's not enough clearance over the top of the wheelarch wood My plan now is to carefully cut new drainage slots downwards from the top with a narrow multi-tool cutter (one of those that reciprocates rather than rotating because if you try to use a drill or something it tangles up in the velvet. If only I'd cut the slots first.....

God - thanks for the tip! What sealant did you use? Just bog-standard clear sealant like you'd use in a bathroom?

I used the black roof and gutter mastik/sealant. Ordinary bathroom sealant has all kinds of properties in it that can damage the paint.

You need one that stays a bit flexible - silicone etc gives off acetic acid as it cures and isn't good on metals like aluminium and mild steel. there's a product called Stixall which is very much like the tiger seal stuff that you can stick car bodies together with. It's cheaper than the tiger seal stuff and I've found it to be just as good if not a bit better - it sticks under water! I used a thin bead of it around the top edges of the channels so it sticks and seals them to the woodwork - I figured it would be a good few years before I needed to do it again - since the old channels were the originals I'll probably be long gone in my box! It would be more difficult to remove than DumDum but you can cut through it with a knife. It cures to a nice 'rubber like' consistency. You can get a nice clean 'edge' to it and it cleans off nicely before it cures - but it is an adhesive as well as a sealant and bonds very well. I used some stainless screws to hold the channels in place. My local DIY place stocks it, but only in clear and white. It's available in black too (which is what I used) but I can't find that locally. The trouble with DumDum is that it seems to be a bit 'runnier' than the original stuff Morris used and it continues to 'ooze' from the joint and I found that little cracks then appear between the wood and it - whereas with Stixall it stays flexible but doesn't crack or anything. Hmm - I'm in Leicestershire. I bet you'll be able to find some up there via googlebox. I think it makes a much better job than DumDum.
