Having never had to recharge my grease gun (I inhereted one fully loaded a while ago) I was bemused to find a selection of castrol greases at halfords. Should I be using CL of LM, and whats the difference?!
I'd be happy to get molly grease if i could find it, but i'm thinking a greasing is well overdue and castrol should fit the bill. if the car falls apart, i'll report back and blame the grease (nothing to do with the rust!)
apparently LM grease is good to 120 degrees, so perhaps CV isn't. grease science isn't my stongest specialism. I think that CV grease is the same as molly as halford list it on there price tags as 'halfords cv moly grease'. thanks for the help anyhow.. grease purchased. now to try and load the grease gun.. do they have a suck function, or is it a messy job spooning it into the cylinder
hopefully you should be able to pull the plunger on your grease gun back at the same time as pushing down on the plastic plate in the grease pot.. and yes it can still get messy, especially if you do not lock the plunger off correctly
There is a type of grease, maybe Moly, that should never be used to protect battery terminals.
It interacts with the lead of the posts and makes them non conductive.

At the beginning of this - the grease offered was CL - which is why I suggested the LM grease. However it now appears to be CV grease - ie Moly grease for CV joints - which is what i use for everything. Except battery terminals of course.........
