All moggies are now 40 years plus. Many Travellers have probably had the wood replaced only once in all that time. It's more likely the dreaded rust will chew up the wings and sills long before the wood rots.

If leaving it outside, I would favour a good wood oil treatment rather than a varnish. Particularly for winter. Frost will cause the wood to contract, cracking a varnish coat, wheras oiled wood would be better at fending off the damp.

Go for it. A traveller will be cheaper and a lot more fun than an ever depreciating modern box

.. I am surprised you can get insurance for everyday use and without overnight garaging. I can't.

I'm 23, have 1 minor accident (declared), Live in a busy part or Portsmouth, Insure my Traveller for every day use, unlimited mileage, parked on the roadside (even though its in an open private car park, just in case) and my insurance is still only £250, against my V8 Landy at £1200!
