chassis rail repair

dont really know all the technical terms, so bare with me!

replacing the front suspension bushes today. Couldn't get the eye bolt out found a few unwanted holes!
can i buy repair panels just for that small area?
it seems alot of hassle and waste buying half a new chassis rail for such a small area...
what should i do?

I had a similar issue on mine, your best bet is too angle grind away until you find some thick metal and weld a small patch as it is flat no panel is available. In my case the chassis leg was all pretty crusty I ended up repalcing it with a new half leg.

That eyebolt mounting is very important - you need at least a half leg - if not a complete replacement leg....... Check the other side too.

Whilst much of the chassis leg can be repaired by butt welding in 2mm plates (or so!) the eyebolt area has reinforcing plates inside and a thick tube for the eye bolt to bolt through. So unless you can replicate all this structure then you are much better off fitting, as BMC says a new half leg.

ideally i would have the whole leg replaced. But i really don't have the time or money to get that sorted
i've removed the gearbox cover and had a good look down the chassis leg. it all looks pretty solid from what i can see, apart from the 2mm holes...
might just attempt to patch it and see how we go. Depends what its like when i start cutting away i guess!
