Creaking noise when pulling away! Any ideas?

Post by Tenk88 »

Hello everyone,

Im at a loose end here, so hopefully someone can give me some pointers.
I am new to the whole Morris experience (yes this is my first car).

I currently use my traveller around London on a sporadic basis, and all has been well, granted speed bumps are avoided at all costs etc etc.

However, recently there is a 'creaking' noise coming from the rear of the car as I accelerate away from a standstill. Its not exactly loud, and sounds mechanical rather than aesthetic in its location. It is very much like the noise an old door would make when left to close slowly.....and i'm 99% sure its not the actual rear door on the traveller.

If anyone could point me in the right direction of what it might be I would be very great full.

Could this simply be the leaf springs needing a good grease??

Also, is it normal to have such a 'loud', almost shaking, sensation on the front suspension when going over any sort of divet/hole in the road?

Im not totally new to classic cars, as a passenger, but i am new to a Morris and am still learning what sounds to expect at certain times! All part of the charm.

Creaking could indeed be dry spring - or rusty chassis - inspect it all urgently. And no - the shaking etc is not normal - check bushes and damper mounting bolts, grease the suspension - and drain the dampers and refill with fresh SAE 30 or 40 oil.
