Having succesfully located writer, broadcaster and topographer Ian Nairn's last car, this might have have been his earlier Minor. It features in a photo by Nairn himself of the newly opened Widnes-Runcorn Road Bridge in 1961.

Yes, I thought it odd too, as Z was rarely used as too easily confused with 2, but just taken a magnifying glass to a well reproduced A4 photo (thanks, Ribapix) and it is Z.

The use of Z is more common in Ireland, Northern Ireland I guess.
