fitting a split screen to a later minor?

Post by jmaster78 »

hi all, is it difficult to fit an older split screen to a 65 single screen minor without having to modify the bodywork? i prefer the look of the split screen and can get one for very litle money, but don't want to damage the car! thanks

I would have thought the roof needs to be a different shape at the very least.. and you will end up with a very odd car.

If you like the shape of a split screen the easiest and safest thing to do is get a conmplete spilt screen car.

No.

The roof, dash, front panel and bonnet are all a different shape to match the flat glass of the split screen.

There was a thread a couple of months ago where someone had put a self adhesive chrome strip down the middle of the windscreen. Sounded awful, but when we saw the pictures it actually looked quite effective. Note that you must have the earlier clap hands wiper system!

You could convert a 65 to have clap hands wipers but it needs another hole in the flitch panel.
After that you could add a fake centre pillar.

as for a real split screen - as mentioned before there are a LOT of panel differences - the main reason is that the splitscreen glass is flat so it needs a 'V' shaped aperture. The V is included in the roof flitch and bonnet as well as the screen aperture.
