Well worth the £6 then..... At least you have some guidance - although you said before the Colourtune (now that is REAL snake oil...) showed missing 'firings' ? I assume the engine was still 'stumbling' when the tubes were all glowing nicely. I have to say - I've run out of ideas. Maybe it just needs a good hammering on a nice straight bit of road to blow away the cobwebs....
I assume you have tried twiddling the ignition to get best idle - and same with the mixture nut ??

Re: Hiccups
The 'snake oil' man thought so. Want a lend?bmcecosse wrote:Well worth the £6 then.....
It did. So I can only assume that that would be caused either by lack of compression or incorrect fuel/air mixture(?) The compression tests gave good results on all cylinders and can't see and lazy valves, plus this can occur for several beats in a row and not just on one cylinder. So my logic leads me to fuel as being the issue....you said before the Colourtune (now that is REAL snake oil...) showed missing 'firings' ?
Yes.I assume the engine was still 'stumbling' when the tubes were all glowing nicely.
Nooooooooo! Only you can save me from insanity BMC!I have to say - I've run out of ideas.
That will have to wait until the scaffold in front of the garage doors is removed.Maybe it just needs a good hammering on a nice straight bit of road to blow away the cobwebs....
Yes but it's not easy when you can't get stable idle below about 1,000RPM.I assume you have tried twiddling the ignition to get best idle - and same with the mixture nut ??

Re: Hiccups
Ahh - 1000 rpm - - well indeed then - I suspect the mixture is probably far too weak - is the exhaust 'splashy'? Try richening it up. In all this - are you sure the vacuum advance is working ok ? I know it's a new dizzy - but is the pipe to the carb clear/not kinked and the connection at the carb clear and not leaking ??

Re: Hiccups
Sorry, what do you mean by 'splashy', spitting water? If so then yes.
The pipe for the Vacuum advance is clear of blockages, not kinked and appears to seal at both ends. If I suck on the end of the pipe then the plate in the dizzy moves and if I place my tongue over the end of the pipe the plate stays where it is until I release. So vacuum advance seems OK.
Will try enriching later => just a couple of flats? => more?

Re: Hiccups
Done that. Marginally better now idles around ~900RPM but still lumpy.
I've tried to record what is sounds like but not sure if the quality is good enough for you to hear. Sounds can only be played with QuickTime player and I can't work out how to convert them to anything else sorry:
Idling (Engine):http://www.si.lloyd.madasafish.com/Engine%20idling.caf
Idling (Exhaust):http://www.si.lloyd.madasafish.com/Exhaust%20idling.caf
Idle > rev > idle (Engine):http://www.si.lloyd.madasafish.com/Engi ... 20idle.caf
