Re: how do i take the door tops off?
Not a difficult job as long as the bolts under the quarter light dont shear..........
Take the door card off, spray the 2 bolts under the quarter light with wd40 or similar
There are 3 rubber covers on the end of the door, under this are 3 bolt which I think are 7/16 and you will need a socket to get at them, also there is a small screw through the door top at the back edge.
Under the window winder there is a spacer? on the inside of the door to remove, again 7/16 and 2 bolts. Below this is a single bolt same size.
Lastly the 1/4 light bolts, a box spanner is best if you have one as space is very limited. Put a rag in the door space to stop the washers and nuts falling into the bottom of the dorr as you wont get them out...
The door top should not be loose, lift it up carefully and slowly. Bring out the lock end first then pull the winod over a bit towards the lock to get the middle bit out.
Good luck!!

Yes,I did mine recently and it's pretty much as David says. The handbook says to remove the glass with the frame, but I left the glass attached inside the door. Access to the front quarterlight was a bit restricted and the frame was a bit tight at the handle side, but it came out and went back ok!

I find a universal joint on a deep 12mm socket and a 2" to 3" extension bar useful for removing the nut under the quarterlight and as mentioned stuff the bottom of the door with old rags in case anything drops down as it's akward to retrieve bits from the bottom of the door.
