Just to introduce myself

Hi all just wanted to introduce myself and my moggi.
She's a 1958 series 3 2dr that came out the factory as a 948cc in black. I purchased her a couple of months ago she's had a 1098cc engine, gearbox and diff put in and had just gone through her MOT unfortunatly she's painted purple . I was intending to use her for a while then do a complete restoration but as summer's come early and i can't stand the colour i've decided to do it early. She's a bit worse than i expected and there's a bit more rust but she's sound underneath [frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame]
Ther's abit of welding to do the rear inner wings and flanges and the L/H sill needs replacing if anyones got any advice on that i'd be very greatful. The bottom of the door posts need doing to.
I was thinking of getting her dipped to strip her but i dont think there be much left afterwards so im doing it the hard way. After the welding she'll be primed and painted in old english white with red interior, well that's the plan anyway

Welcome to the forum.
Telling everyone where you are located ( not you full adddress ) might prompt a " friendly local " , who has been there and done it before,to come around and offer advice.
The car doesn't look too bad from the pictures posted...much worse examples have been seen....and now is the time to do it whilst it is stripped.

If there is any doubt about fuel leakage/ vapours from old perished rubber filler pipes/ leaking fuel sender gasket, etc then your fuel tank will be a bomb waiting to go off ,if a welding spark ignites it.Safety, safety every time in this area.Remove the tank if you are in any doubt, emptying it is not enough fuel vapour hangs around unless a tank has been steam cleaned.

If your front inner wings are sound then hopefully the corrosion up the A posts will not be too bad.There is a metal " ledge"
preventing the flat metal plate ( door hinge screws go through the body and into the plate ) from dropping to the bottom.Once the screws are removed you will hear the clang !!
Because it is totally enclosed, if this is rotted, the only way to replace it ,is to cut your way in.
Removing the doors will give you good access to repair the base of the A post.beware the doors are heavy, enlist a helper or have something to drop /rest it on ( old milk grate/ jack with some baulk timber, etc. )
If it is serious stuff and you are having to cut away everything connecting it to the sill then weld a metal bar across the base of the door opening.
The sill repair pieces are relatively cheap, so unless it is only a very small area,replace rather than make repair patches yourself.It will take longer to rip out the old and prepare sound clean metal to weld to, but worth it in the end.
This is where you need an experienced eye, to help you make the decision as to whether a particular area is " too far gone ",
to muck around.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Compared to what faces me in the garage at the moment your moggie looks pretty sound. Funny purple is one colour I didn't find on my van!
