cold oil pressure.

Post by phurn »

Twice today my oil pressure light came on as I was on my way back from work, only when cold and only when returning to tick over after reving. When the engine was warm its fine, and each time a quick blip of throttle solved the problem. But it still can't be good?

Well - normally there is absolutely no problem holding oil pressure when cold - but it could be that the strainer in the sump is clogged up with rubbish - and so it struggles to pull enough thick/cold oil through the strainer - but manages ok when the oil is hot and thin. I would drop the sump and remove/clean the strainer. But an oil pressure gauge would tell the whole story instead of guessing games with the oil switch and light!

I was hoping it was that, ill have to investigate. I hope its not a knackered bottom end every now and then I'm convinced I hear a knock when its cold, but then it doesnt do it again for me to double check!
