Lower trunnion - suspension rebuild

Hi

I'm reassembing the suspension following installation of the new chassis leg.

Yesterday I was at the point where I jack the lower arm up to meet the lower trunnion and in theory when lined up the pin should just be able to move back through the hole at the end of the rear arm.

Every time I thought I had it lined up, a gentle tap with a copper hammer resulted in the rear thrust washer and dust seal moving out of position and the whole thing had to be repeated. Unfortunately, with no engine in it means that someone is sat on the front of the car to allow the suspension to compress.

Any tips here as it seems to be incredibly fiddly?

The swivel pin with trunnion attached hanging from the damper arm should be fairly free to move around, so once you have the lower arm at the right height I recall it being fairly easy to line up the pin with the hole in the arm. Please do make sure you have that lower arm VERY secure on the jack as you jack it up. If it is very securely held you can hold both ends of the pin in the bottom trunnion and guide it in. I don't recall having to tap it in. just wiggled it into position and quickly screwed the bolt on. Hope this helps!

You may find it easier to jack the chassis up on a trolley jack, support the lower arm on an axle stand then lower the trolley jack to the required height which will raise the lower arm

Exactly as above - jack it up high then pop the pin in....... It's not difficult. If you don't want to jack it that high - take the re-bound stop out!
