Crash repair and advice

Hi folks
I seem to have had a bit of a crash in the Moggy. This is very frustrating and disappointing as I have so nearly finished a big refurb. Fortunately no one was hurt. I have enclosed a photo for info.

I have priced up the bits at ESM which I think comes to about £980.

I didn't think there was any thing really structual, but having looked at the LH scuttle panel there is a very slight bend to it, and where the LH guttering changes from the vertical to an angle at the bottom of the "A" pillar it has touched the door.

Thanks for the reply Matt . It looks like an interesting batch of panels. I was hoping to go through insurance though if possible. However, if things don't workout with them, it could be a possibility.

who're your insurers?
i'm with footman james, and - not on the same scale - the windscreen was replaced and the rubber supplied was incorrect, they were more than happy for me to purchase my own part and have it reimbursed. this was done very quickly.
speak to your insurers and find out who they recommend in your area.
i do know that minor miracles have a good reputation - they also do nation-wide delivery/collection.
i think they do insurance work.
make sure you work closely with all involved parties, and keep tabs on what's going on and don't let them so a quick, cheep job which will spoil the car

Oh dear - some serious distortion there - the body will need pulling straight on a jig after the bolt-on parts (wings/front panel etc) are removed. Hope the insurance don't declare it to be a write-off.........

I'm also with Footman James, so your last post sounds promising Matt. I'll get in touch with them tomorrow and find out where I stand.

Your right BMC, there is a lot of distortion, but I'm hoping it doesn't extend too far inwards.

Having looked on ebay, the car must be worth around £6000. There was no rot anywhere, and I must have spent over £1500 pounds on new bits over the last 18 months, not to mention all the replacement panels I've fitted. I'm just hoping that the estimate for repair doesn't exceed the value (obviously). If I can find a sympathetic repairer I might get off to a good start.

Hi, I've heard Autobodies in Lavant are very good (on the same estate as Steve Forman) Apparently thye are crash repairers with a particular interest in Classics. You could also speak to Pitt Lane in Winchester who have a very well equipped premises. They gave me a quote for my traveller recently when it was hit by someone who decided that they would go first when it wasn't their right of way..

Another thought regarding the extent of the damage - is there any damage to the bulkhead - i.e just under the petrol pump?

If you look at the 6th photo down, where the rear frame meets the engine bay floor, it is distorted. However, the crossmember which is directly below the fuel pump is intact. What are you thinking?

Sorry, I have only just seen your post: I have seen several cars where the car has been distorted in this area - it is a major part of the structure and given that experience, I always look at a car there now - espeially if I'm considering buying it. However- all the cars have been repaired sucessfully so don't worry too much. Also, I would think that the technology of body jigs must have come a long way since (all these cars were in accidents in the late 80's) One of them is still known to me and is absolutely fine. Also the overall condition of your car is clearly excellent which always helps. Good luck and keep us updated..Giles

I've been in contact with Minor miracles today and spoke to a chap called John Philips who was extremley helpful.
Long story short, he is very kindly collecting the car next Tuesday (the 29th March) to take it back for an estimate and deliberation with the insurance engineer to agree a price for work to be carried out.

Well Maurice has been repaired and John Philips had done a brilliant job. I would highly recommend him.
In fact it worked out so well that I was able to use him for my daughter's wedding in Southampton on the 02 July. It was a truly brilliant day and Maurice nearly stole the show (only kidding... although it was close!).
A friend of my wife has since expressed an interest in using him for her wedding in November.
