Brake upgrade?
I have been looking at a variety of minors and travelers with a view to purchase.
My current Minor has ford vented discs and a servo and stops very easily.
We drove car with Discs and no servo was very hard to stop. Not saying the brakes didn't work, just it required much effort on the pedal which my wife was not at all keen on.
The car with a servo and drums was also hard to stop which surprised me I thought that the servo would make the pedal easier to push. I am about to buy a traveler and I think I will have to get some discs and a servo fitted so my wife will not be scared to drive the car. How much do you think I need to spend and where please?
Would it be cost effective to swap the brake set up from my current car to the new traveler and v versa . This would devalue my current car obviously putting drums back on.
I am aware that standard drums well serviced will lock the wheels, it's just she would like the operation to be easy. I love her dearly and am keen to keep her happy. Please advise.
If you want to part ex your traveler for my car that would be good.
Thanks~?[frame][/frame]

Re: Brake upgrade?
Grumpy discs but chuck the hard pads and find some original/FERODO ones at a jumble

Have we not heard of hub problems with the grumpy kits.....? The drum brakes should NOT be hard to press - without a servo! And they will stop the car just fine. I suspect there was something wrong with the brakes on the car you tried. Remember - these cars were driven by little old ladies - and District Nurses.......

At 25 mph, in the 1960's.Remember - these cars were driven by little old ladies
Road conditions and expectations have changed quite a bit since then.

Re: Brake upgrade?
Price of petrol now -I rarely get above 25 mph these days. Only downhill - and then with the engine switched off.
As I am sure you are all waiting for it........ the REAL brake upgrade is of course the fitment of the Wolseley 1500 9" front (and possibly also 8" rear) drums. Excellent brakes - bolt straight on - no servo required, and no special mods to the master cylinder, and no remote reservoir needed either!

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.
