1968 mm1000 - brake light switch?

Post by xpress »

hi there.

car's nearly there but there's a problem with the brake light switch on the three piece union. just a couple of questions ..

i tested the spades, i got 10.5 volta so there's spark.

seemed to read 2/3 volts on the switch, don't know if that says anything but ..

when i took the spades off, cleaned them up, put it back on the switch, and the brake lights would start working, then stop a few seconds later. rinse and repeat ..

questions.

can i get a quick brake light switch from gsf, would a landy rover series 2 one work or something else for now?

1. could a faulty switch do this sort of thing or do they work or not work?
2. the switch - could air in the system stop the switch from working properly or intermittent brake light, or is it air powered?
3. does the switch just screw off, and is there any brake fluid spilt, any idea on this process?

any test for the brake light switch and can it be repaired? i needed to use the car midweek :S

regards.

Sure it's not a loose wire in the connector ? You fiddle with it - it works a bit - then the connection breaks again. Yes I believe a Landy switch works - just take out the old switch and immediately screw in the new one - tiny fluid spill - catch it with a paper towel. No -air won't affect it.

hi bmc, and thanks for your help. tried to wiggle the connector, didn't notice anything untoward.

i think it's the switch, there's more no lights there at all than lights. and seems to see lights when i have pushed the spades on then quickly they dissapear again leaving me frustrated and taking the spades on and off and cleaning them with emery board.

one of the spades is a bit bent but as long as it has contact, even if it's pushed in between the rubber bit of the spade and the outside of the metal spade connector it should still work?
